Setup Guide for Servers

This page will cover how to setup HomeCord for use in your own Server.

It is assumed you have already added HomeCord to your Server. If you haven't, you can add it via this link here.

Cannot see HomeCord's Embeds during the setup process? Make sure you have Embeds enabled on Discord in your User Settings -> Chat -> "Show embeds and preview website links".

Step 1. Beginning Setup of a Home Channel

Firstly, to begin the whole setup process, run the /setup Command in any Text Channel in your Server. It doesn't matter which, the Channel you run this Command in won't be seen as your wanted Home Channel by default.

Upon initial running of the /setup Command, you will be presented with an Embed showing you the default settings for your Home Channel. To change each of them, use the dropdown Select Menu below the Embed.

Below is a table of what each of the shown settings are for:

SettingDescription

Channel to use

Set the Text Channel you want to use as your Server's Home Channel. Includes an option to create a new Channel for you if you don't want to use an existing Channel.

Message Activity

Set the minimum threshold for automatically highlighting Messages to Home, or disable automatic Message highlighting completely.

Scheduled Events Activity

Set the minimum threshold for automatically highlighting Events to Home, or disable automatic Event highlighting completely.

Threads & Posts Activity

Set the minimum threshold for automatically highlighting Threads & Posts to Home, or disable automatic Thread/Post highlighting completely. (This includes Public Threads, and Posts from Forum & Media Channels)

Save & Proceed

Saves the above settings, and moves onto the next step of the setup process.

Cancel

Cancels setting up a new Home Channel.

Once you are happy with your initial settings, select the "Save & Proceed" option to move onto the next step. All of the Activity Threshold settings can be changed at any time after the setup process too.

Step 2. Validation of Setup

After you have set your initial settings, the next step of HomeCord's setup process will validate the Server Permissions it has been granted in your Server. This is a 'sanity check' to ensure HomeCord will be able to actually setup a Home Channel for you.

This validation check will look different depending on what you set for the "Channel to use" setting in the first step.

If you selected "Create Channel for me"

The below table will show the validation checks for when you set HomeCord to create a new Text Channel for you as your Home:

Validation CheckRequired?Description

HomeCord has "Manage Channel" Permission (from Server-level Role settings)

Required to be able to create a new Text Channel as your Home, outside of any Categories.

HomeCord has "Manage Webhooks" Permission (from Server-level Role settings)

Required to be able to create its Webhook in the new Home Channel.

If you selected to use an existing Channel

Likewise, this table is for when you select an existing Text Channel to use as your Home:

Validation CheckRequired?Description

HomeCord has "Manage Webhooks" Permission (in the selected Channel)

Required to be able to create HomeCord's Webhook in its Home Channel.

@everyone has "Send Messages" Permission revoked (in selected Channel)

Required to prevent your Members from sending messages in the Home Channel.

HomeCord has "Embed Links" Permission (in selected Channel)

Optional, for HomeCord to be able to embed links included in Highlighted or Featured Messages.

HomeCord has "Attach Files" Permission (in selected Channel)

Optional, for HomeCord to be able to cross-post attachments (images, etc) included in Highlighted or Featured Messages. (If the original Message also had Attachments)

If you fail any of the required validation checks, there is an option you can select to re-run the validation checks after you have done what was asked in the requirement.

After you pass all the required validation checks, you can complete the setup process using the dropdown select menu, and your new Home Channel will be made for you!
